Smithville Village Park Improvements
Smithville Village Park is a central gathering place for our community. With input from the Smithvillev Citizens’ Park Committee, a long-term plan is guiding improvements to keep the park enjoyable for generations to come.
Recent Park Improvements
- 2021: New drainage system at Nate Butcher Baseball Field #1
- 2023: Paved walking paths completed
- 2024: New batting cage with concrete base at Baseball Field #2
- 2024: Fence repairs at baseball fields and basketball courts
These projects were funded through Village resources and private donations.
Upcoming Park Projects (Target Completion by 2029)
- Two lighted pickleball courts near the basketball courts
- Restrooms and pavilion near the Veteran’s Memorial and soccer field
- Purchase and development of the former Green Elementary School property as Village Park #2
- Additional restrooms and pavilion at the new park
- Lights for Baseball Field #2
- A walking bridge over Sugar Creek connecting to hiking trails
Funding & Community Support
The Wayne County Community Foundation has already committed $50,000 toward the pickleball courts.
The Village is pursuing additional local, state, and federal grants, which often require matching funds from the community.
How You Can Help
Donations of any amount support these projects and help secure grant funding. All contributions are tax-deductible and managed through the Smithville Village Parks Fund in partnership with the Wayne County Community Foundation. Together, we can continue building parks that reflect Smithville’s pride and future.
